BETD 25 Side Event: Fresh Wind for the Energy Transition in Ukraine – state of the art and European experiences
About 0.5 of wind capacity remain operational during war times in Ukraine, contributing to keep-ing the lights on in a heavily damaged and destroyed energy infrastructure. Wind farms continue to be planned, and investors are cautiously allocating funds to operationalise them and sell electricity in a tight market with a persistent supply gap projected to stay in the medium term. Yet national targets only aim at 6.2 GW expected installed capacity by 2030. Could there be a bigger role for wind in the Ukrainian energy mix of the future if a stable offtaker situation were to exist, and what does it mean for the grid infrastructure at national or regional level? What do European experiences say?
